Man charged over stabbing in town

A man has been charged after a reported stabbing in a Derbyshire town.

Emergency services were called to North Street in Alfreton at 08:50 BST on Wednesday.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital with stab wounds but is now in stable condition, police said.

A 45-year-old man has been charged with wounding with intent, possessing a bladed article in public, and assaulting an emergency worker.

He was due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The force appealed to people who were in the North Street, Brook Avenue, or Outseats Drive areas of Alfreton to assist with inquiries.

It said there would be an increased police presence in the area in the next few days.
