Children get hundreds of presents in shoebox appeal
- Published
Almost 500 presents have been distributed across the community after the annual shoebox appeal by the Wolves Foundation football charity.
A total of 472 shoeboxes containing gifts were presented to charities and community groups to pass on to children who might otherwise not receive much this Christmas.
It was the fourth year the appeal has run and proved "the most successful yet", foundation senior health officer Ollie Locker said.
He said the generous support from individuals, groups and businesses had been incredible and showed the strength of community spirit in the city.
It has meant children "who might be facing challenging circumstances can have a little bit of Christmas cheer with presents to open on Christmas Day", he added.
Support for the scheme came from several businesses and also Wolves fan Dominique Hatton, the Dudley Sea Cadets and City of Wolverhampton College students.
Within the football club, gifts came from Young Wolves along presents from individual members of staff and also participants who took part in a Christmas tournament.
Charities and community groups that helped to distribute presents included the Good Shepherd, Hope Community Project, Women & Families Resource Centre, the Haven, Jericho House and the Family Hub in Graiseley.
