A derelict hotel has been hit by another fire after two blazes at the site at the start of the month.

Isle of Wight fire crews were called to the former Ocean Hotel in Sandown, shortly after 22:20 BST on Tuesday.

It is the third fire at the building in August but Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said it is not treating this latest incident as suspicious.

The fire was quickly extinguished by firefighters.

An 18-year-old man was arrested by police on Monday, in connection with a fire on the evening of 8 August.

He has been bailed until 18 November.

Hotel fires on the island

There was a large fire at the site in May 2021, involving all four floors of the building, and which destroyed part of the abandoned hotel.

There have been a number of fires at derelict hotels on the Isle of Wight in recent times.

In June, two fires in a week broke out at the Cygnet Hotel in Sandown.

In July 2022, and in February this year, fires damaged the former Parkbury Hotel.

The former Grand Hotel was hit by fire in January 2022, and the Royal Cliff Hotel was destroyed in a suspected arson attack in 2014.
