Arrest after woman seriously burned in house fire

The woman was rescued from a house fire in Eagle Street, Hanley

A man has been arrested on suspicion of arson after a woman was taken to hospital with serious burns.

Staffordshire Police said it was called to a report of a house fire in Eagle Street, Hanley, at about 11:15 GMT.

Firefighters rescued the woman and extinguished the flames, police added.

The force is treating the blaze as deliberate and is holding the 47-year-old, from Stoke-on-Trent, in custody for questioning.

Officers added Eagle Street had been closed for investigations.
