Cash boost for station project

The government gave the green light to funding for Peterborough's Station Quarter

Nearly £48m is on its way to Peterborough after the government confirmed it would contribute to a city centre regeneration project.

The project to build a Station Quarter is expected to cost £65m in total, with building work due to begin this autumn.

A new, second entrance will be built at Peterborough railway station and there will be walking and cycling routes to the city centre shops and cathedral.

Council leadership clings on

The council's Labour leader, Dennis Jones, survived a no confidence vote

The Labour-run city council held onto its leadership after surviving a vote on a motion of no confidence.

It was put forward on Wednesday evening by Peterborough First, which had made an alliance with the Greens and Liberal Democrats.

The vote lost by 26 to 32, seeing one Peterborough First councillor resign from the group before the meeting began.

Amber health alert under way

Peterborough Lido is holding early morning and late evening swim sessions for the summer solstice

Peterborough was put under an amber heat health alert on Thursday, which lasts until Monday at 09:00 BST.

Parts of the East are expected to reach 31C at the weekend, when the longest day, or summer solstice, falls.

The city's lido welcomed solstice swimmers for early morning and late evening sessions on Saturday, but has urged them to be aware of the heat.

Library users have their say

The survey on how people use libraries in the city is open for seven weeks

Residents are being asked to have their say on how they use library services in the city.

A consultation on which libraries and services people use, and how they travel there, closes on 5 August.

It comes as the city council has proposed cutting the number of static libraries in the city from 10 to three, as part of cost-cutting measures.

Tayo Edun spent the second half of last season at Peterborough United

Peterborough United left-back Tayo Edun was signed by Stockport County on a free transfer.

The 27-year-old joined Posh from Charlton Athletic during the January transfer window.

He made 17 appearances for the club, scoring twice.
