Swimmers rescued after being trapped in rip

The swimmers had become trapped in a rip current off Perranporth beach

Two swimmers were rescued after becoming trapped in a rip current off a Cornish beach on Thursday.

RNLI lifeguards and the St Agnes coastguard rescued the swimmers at 17:08 BST at Perranporth beach and they were taken to hospital by waiting ambulances.

The coastguard thanked members of the public for calling the emergency services and said this made a "significant difference to the outcome".

They went on to remind beach-goers to swim between the flags and make sure friends and family know where they are.
