The family of a man who died days after he was attacked have paid tribute to their "beloved son and brother".
Martin Edgar, 42, was found with serious head injuries after he was assaulted on Waterloo Street, Coventry, at about 04:00 GMT on Tuesday.
He was taken to hospital where he died on Friday and police subsequently launched a murder investigation.
Mr Edgar's family said: "With broken hearts, we as a family must come to terms with the loss of our beloved son and brother, who has grown his angel wings.
"One of the branches has fallen from our family tree. Sleep peacefully Martin. Forever in our hearts."
Akbar Khan, of Yardley Street, Coventry, was charged with wounding prior to Mr Edgar's death and appeared at Coventry Magistrates Court on Friday.
The 24-year-old was remanded in custody ahead of his next hearing at Warwick Crown Court on Monday.
West Midlands Police said they were working with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to review the charges in light of Mr Edgar's death.
