A man has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl in a churchyard in West Sussex.

Officers from Sussex Police were called to St Andrew and St Cuthman's Church, in Vicarage Lane, Steyning, at about 09:00 GMT on 27 March.

A 19-year-old man from Worthing held the following day on suspicion of sexual assault and kidnap has now been released on police bail with strict conditions, pending further inquiries, the force said.

Police have confirmed they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation at this time and that patrols are ongoing in the area.

Det Supt Karrie Bohanna said: "Violence against women and girls is a matter we take incredibly seriously, and we will continue to work relentlessly to protect the community and hold perpetrators accountable."

The force is encouraging anyone with information concerning the incident to come forward.
