The head teacher at an Aberdeen private school has resigned following an internal investigation.

Parents at Albyn School were told in March this year that the "serious matter" concerned members of staff and was not a child safeguarding issue.

The school has now said Stefan Horsman had decided to step down and would not be returning to his post.

It said its investigation had concluded but its findings would remain confidential.

Albyn School said he acknowledged "recent allegations made about him, whether upheld by the school or not, have created significant difficulties for all concerned".

The school did not specify what the allegations related to.

It said Mr Horsman had decided that it was in the best interests of the school community for him to depart and ensure a smooth transition.

The school said it would take steps to find a replacement as quickly as possible.
