Lincoln Cathedral opted for an al fresco Sunday service following a minor fire earlier.

Firefighters were called to the Grade I listed building at about 10:30 BST.

Worshippers were partway through the Sung Eucharist when the fire alarm went off, but the clergy, congregation and choir filed outside, where the service resumed on the lawns.

The BBC understands an electrical unit within the choir stall lights caught fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

Posting on social media, a cathedral spokesperson said: "We are very grateful to the members of Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue who attended the cathedral this morning to deal with an incident.

"This has now been successfully dealt with and the cathedral will be open for the remaining services as planned.”
