Dormant bank accounts in Jersey yield £44m
- Published
More than £44m has been retrieved from dormant bank accounts in Jersey, according to new figures.
In 2017, politicians agreed unclaimed money from bank accounts that have been inactive for more than 15 years would be given to charity.
Under the scheme millions of pounds have been given to the Jersey Community Foundation, which then awards money to charities such as the Women's Refuge and St John Ambulance.
Deputy Ian Gorst, Minister for External Relations, estimated the total value of the fund would be £48m by 2028.
