An 83-year-old man has been charged with causing the death of a disabled man whose wheelchair was struck by a car.

Jaymie Rajan Tank, described as a "shining star" by his family, was 28 when he was killed by a Fiat Punto in Heswall, Wirral, on 21 April last year.

His carer, 58-year-old Jason Stanley, was also seriously injured but survived the collision, which happened on Village Road at about 13:30 BST.

Terence Page, from OIdfield Drive in the town, has been charged with causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving.

Merseyside Police at the time said the car had struck three parked vehicles and the driver was also treated in hospital.

Mr Tank's family released a tribute via police, which said: "Jaymie was the joy in our lives, and the shining star that will always be in our hearts.

"Forever rest in peace, our darling Jaymie."

Mr Page was due to appear at Liverpool Magistrates' Court for an initial appearance earlier.
