An arrest warrant has been issued for a woman who failed to appear in court over the ownership of an XL bully dog.

Kayleigh Ellen Abigail, 22, pleaded guilty to possession of the dog without an exemption certificate and to obstructing a police officer in July.

Since 1 February 2024, it has been a criminal offence to own an XL bully without an exemption certificate.

Ms Abigail, from Penrith, failed to appear at North Cumbria Magistrates' Court in Carlisle earlier.

Last month, the judge at the Carlisle Magistrates' Court ordered she must provide a vet's report into whether the dog was dangerous.
