A teenager who died in a crash on the M6 motorway was "a beautiful soul", his family has said.

Ryan Liam Morgan, 14, from Morecambe, was pronounced dead at the scene after a van in which he was a passenger left the motorway and crashed into a tree.

The Peugeot van left the motorway between junctions 34 and 33 southbound near Lancaster at around 12:15 BST on Easter Sunday, Lancashire Police said.

A force spokesperson said the teenager's father, who is his 30s, was the van driver and remained in hospital with serious injuries.

A tribute issued by Ryan Liam's family described him as "our precious boy".

"There truly is no one like our Ryan, such a beautiful soul and so far from typical," his family said.

"Words can't express how much we have loved and cherished him and how much we always will."

The tribute went on to say that Ryan Liam was "the most funny, silly, loving, generous boy, who literally could not stop talking".

"He was always making his little sisters giggle or giving them cuddles when they were sad."

It added that Ryan Liam "welcomed so many people into our family life, most of all his big sister Cat who he was so close to".

'Eternally heartbroken'

His mum, Kim, added: "Ryan Liam was the most perfect precious little boy you would ever see, and he grew to be more beautiful every day.

"He was the most amazing son to Kim and brother to Primrose and Summer and we will miss him as long as we live.

"Our hearts have a hole that will never heal, and we can't express enough the devastation this has caused our family.

"We are eternally heartbroken. RIP our perfect beautiful Ryan Liam."

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said their thoughts were with the loved ones of Ryan Liam Morgan and his father.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision and police are appealing for anyone with information or footage to contact them.
