A 34-year-old man has appeared in court accused of causing death by dangerous driving in a one-vehicle crash.

A grey Ford Raptor was travelling westbound on the A69 near Throckley, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, when it came off the road at about 11:30 GMT on Thursday.

A man in his 20s, who was travelling in the car, died at the scene, Northumbria Police said.

The defendant, of no fixed abode, has been been remanded in custody and will appear at court again on 24 December for a pre-trial hearing and plea.
