A university has said it was "proud to break down barriers" after being recognised for its commitment to diversity and inclusion.

The University of Wolverhampton was named university of the year at the Multicultural Apprenticeship Awards 2025 and praised for its work on widening participation in its apprenticeship schemes.

Jenny Cannon, deputy head of the university's school of health and wellbeing, said the award reflected its desire to ensure apprenticeships "open doors for talent from all communities".

"As the university of opportunity, we are proud to break down barriers to education and create pathways for every learner to thrive," she said.

The awards, which were founded in 2015, honour organisations for their contributions to apprenticeships and improving diversity.

Other recipients recognised during the ceremony on 7 November included AstraZeneca, Royal Mail and the BBC.
