Police have launched an investigation into the death of a man in his 70s whose car crashed into a tree.

Surrey Police said they were called to reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a red Mercedes on Horsham Road in Cranleigh at about 10:15 BST on Thursday.

South East Coast Ambulance Service crews attended the incident and were joined by Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey, Sussex, but confirmed a person had died at the scene.

The road was closed between Park For Paws and Somersbury Lane, police added.

Surrey Police say witnesses to the incident, or any one with dash cam footage, are asked to come forward.

"We are particularly keen to speak to two people who stopped to help the driver.

"Unfortunately, both left before police were able to obtain their details," they added.
