Guernsey shops will be open for longer on Thursdays in the lead-up to Christmas.

The Guernsey Retail Group said many shops in St Peter Port would stay open until 21:00 GMT on 5, 12 and 19 December.

It said shops on The Bridge would either open from 19:00 to 21:00, or stay open for the whole time.

Jonathan Creasey, from the retail group, said: "This is a firm favourite in the calendar and the extended hours, entertainment, stalls and excitement leading up to Christmas all add to the lovely festive atmosphere."

'Incredibly important'

Charities, not-for-profit organisations, buskers, choirs and Le Petit Train would accompany late-night shopping, said the retail group.

Mr Creasey said the festive season was a vital time for Guernsey retailers.

"The 'buy local' message is more important now than ever - the more that the public choose to buy from local retailers, the better it will be for the health and vibrancy of our town centres," he said.

"It is all incredibly important and beneficial for our island."
