A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after he was assaulted in Leicester, police have said.

The victim was confronted by three men coming out of a house in Clifton Road at about 18:15 GMT on Tuesday, chased into Lansdowne Road and attacked with a baseball bat.

Officers said the suspects also damaged a car, which had been flagged down as the victim tried to flee, but nobody in the car was hurt.

The victim, in his 40s, was taken to hospital suffering from a head injury and fractures to his leg but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Officers said the victim went to investigate a disturbance in a neighbouring property when he was attacked.

The suspects, who made off on foot, were described as being in their late 20s to early 30s, about 5ft 6in, of stocky build, with beards and short black hair and wearing dark clothing.

Lansdowne Road was closed from Saffron Lane up to Lorrimer Road while officers carried out inquiries at the scene.
