A murder investigation has begun after a man died in hospital, four days after he was attacked in the street.
Northamptonshire Police said the 50-year-old man from Kettering was assaulted in the town's London Road, between midnight and 04:00 BST on Wednesday.
A 34-year-old man from Kettering has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody. Three women and four men arrested on suspicion of murder have been released on bail.
Det Insp Torie Harrison said it was "a fast-moving investigation" and police were looking at a number of lines of inquiry.
"The victim in this investigation suffered appalling injuries in the attack," said Det Insp Harrison.
Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been near London Road at that time or may have dash-cam footage to get in touch.
The attack took place between between Market Street and St Peter's Avenue, according to police.
The seven people previously arrested in connection with the case were three women from Kettering, aged 45, 40 and 23, three men from Kettering, aged 60, 55 and 31 and a man from Corby, aged 34.
A post-mortem examination is due to take place later.
Det Insp Harrison said officers hoped to provide an update on their investigation on Monday.
