A house fire that killed a woman in her 70s does not appear to be suspicious, police have said.

Fire crews from Bicester and Oxford were called to Oxford Close, Kirtlington, at 10:53 GMT on Monday.

Thames Valley Police Det Sgt Chris Bennett said the force's investigation was continuing and the victim's family and friends were being supported by officers.

"This fire is an absolute tragedy, and first and foremost, our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who has died," he said.

"There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding this fire, although we are conducting an investigation alongside the fire service on behalf of the Oxfordshire coroner.

"Our officers will remain at the scene for some time."
