PC Chase Frost was dismissed from Gloucestershire Constabulary

A police officer who used "offensive and degrading" homophobic language towards his colleagues has been banned from the profession.

PC Chase Frost, of Gloucestershire Constabulary, was dismissed without notice and placed on the police barred list following a gross misconduct hearing on Thursday.

Just before his outburst, he had been told he was suspended from driving police vehicles, following an incident in which minor damage was caused to a police car.

The force's Dep Ch Con Katy Barrow-Grint described PC Frost's behaviour as "unprofessional and unacceptable", amounting to "intentional discrimination".

In the outburst, PC Frost swore and made a comment about the sexuality of two of his senior colleagues.

His supervisor reported the comment to the force's professional standards department and gross misconduct proceedings were launched.

The panel that oversaw the hearing concluded that the comment breached three policing standards of professional behaviour – authority, respect and courtesy; equality and diversity; and discreditable conduct.

'Unprofessional'

Dep Ch Con Barrow-Grint said: "PC Frost's reaction to being told he temporarily couldn't drive a police vehicle was unprofessional, unacceptable and intentional discrimination.

"The language he used was offensive and degrading to his colleagues as well as the wider LGBTQ+ community.

"We are committed to being an anti-discriminatory organisation and will continue to robustly manage any officer or member of police staff who fails to demonstrate this commitment to the public and our workforce."
