Plans for additional needs care centre submitted

A new bid to build a three-storey care centre for adults and children with additional needs has been put forward.
Two new buildings could be constructed where the former Mauricare Residential Home once stood in Leicester's Fosse Road Central.
The centre would be expected to care for those with learning disabilities, autism, and social, emotional, and mental health difficulties.
The applicant, Supported Living Properties Ltd, said the centre would "provide a better standard of living accommodation" for residents.
The Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) said planning permission has been twice granted by Leicester City Council for similar schemes on the land – once in November 2020 and then again in January 2022.
The latest scheme for the new care centre is the same as that given approval in 2022 in terms of the size of the buildings.
There would be a three-storey property built facing Fosse Road Central, with a one-storey building set behind it.
LDRS said the developer has reworked its plans to include fewer apartments, with the latest proposal would see 12 two-bed flats built, instead of 22 studio flats.
Each resident would receive 24-hour specialist care, with carers working in shifts, the applicant said.
While the flats would each be two-beds, the developer added there would only be one resident in each.
The second bedroom would be used as sensory rooms and as sleeping space for visiting family members.
There would also be "several areas" of green space for residents to use, planning documents state.
Four car parking spaces and 12 cycle storage spaces are also proposed, with planning officers at Leicester City Council previously finding this provision to be acceptable.
A public consultation on the plan is set to run until 21 February and Leicester City Council has set a target decision date of 24 April.
