Repairs due to start on storm-hit breakwater

Cracks up to 6in (15cm) wide have appeared in the stonework

Workers will start repairs at St Catherine's Breakwater next week, it has been announced.
Damage from Storm Ciaran last November was made worse by storm force winds in February.
Cracks up to 6in (15cm) wide have appeared in the stonework of the Grade 1 listed structure, said Ports of Jersey.
Work is due to be carried out by Geomarine over two weeks at low water, it said.
UK-based storm defence specialists AECOM found that the northern buttress required immediate repair, said Ports of Jersey.
Phase one of the work will focus on this buttress, where areas of facing stones have been dislodged, exposing the inner core.
The breakwater will remain open throughout the repair work, although there may be some access restrictions in the immediate working area.
Phase two of the work will focus on the repair and stabilisation of the slipway.
Ports of Jersey said it was working with the government’s planning and heritage teams "to assess the best method to future-proof this structure".
