Two men, aged 20 and 21, have been charged with assault after two people were stabbed in the street.

Both have also been charged with possessing an offensive weapon after a 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were taken to hospital following the attack on Tuesday in Longsight, Manchester.

Greater Manchester Police said the two victims remained in hospital in a stable condition.

The force said the arrested men, who are both from Manchester, would appear before magistrates later.

The double stabbing took place shortly before 19:00 GMT on Tuesday close to Rushford Street and Purcell Street.

Greater Manchester Police initially said an 11-year-old boy had been charged with assault and possession of an offensive weapon. The force has since corrected their statement to say a 21-year-old man was charged.
