A man has died in a house-fire in Worcester city centre.

Firefighters rescued the man from the two-storey end terrace house, where he was found in critical condition.

Crews had been called to Southfield Street on Saturday at about 14:15 BST.

Ambulance staff attempted to revive the patient but he was confirmed dead at the scene.

Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service sent four crews to the scene.

Eight firefighters fought the fire wearing breathing apparatus and using two hosereel jets and one covering jet, as well as a thermal imaging camera.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said a crew worked together to "administer advanced life support".

"Sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead on scene a short time later," a spokesperson said.
