A police custody suite in Sleaford has been turned into an interactive hub to reduce knife crime and serious violence among young people.

The scheme, called "The Happening", looks at the myths and realities of weapon-carrying and is the product of a year's research.

Researchers hope it will give visitors tools to help reduce violence in the community.

It was developed by Lincolnshire Police and the University of Lincoln with £190,000 from the Home Office.

The centre is divided into separate, themed areas covering the challenges faced by offenders, the justice system and how to help victims of knife crime.

Lincolnshire's Police and Crime Commissioner, Marc Jones, said: “The project seeks to educate youngsters on the horrific consequences of knife crime for victims, offenders and their families.

"If we can divert one person from this path then it is worthwhile."

The exhibits were developed after an analysis of police data, evaluation of police training and interviews with young people aged 16-25.
