A passenger onboard an Aurigny flight that "left the runway" said he "was a bit suspect" that it might not land in time.

The flight from Gatwick came to a stop within the runway's "end safety area" at the airport's western section on Tuesday.

David Millard, who often travels to and from Guernsey, said "when you've come in here for 40 years, you know when the plane should be down".

He added: "I don't think at any point anyone thought they were in any danger."

Incident investigated

There were no reported injuries among the 63 passengers and four crew on board.

Mr Millard said he would have liked more communication from the crew during the incident.

"No-one actually spoke to us about it until after it happened," he said.

He explained it was not the only problem as "they were slow in reacting" to getting passengers off the plane.

"Even then they brought a bus that was too small for everyone"

"The rest of us had to sit there for half hour waiting until the bus had unloaded and come back again which was pretty disappointing".

Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is investigating the incident.

An Aurigny spokesperson said: "Although this is a rare event, thankfully no-one was hurt, although we realise the experience and resulting delay will have been upsetting for customers on board.

“Our staff contacted every customer who was on the flight by phone not long after the incident to ask after their wellbeing, and we reiterate that we apologise to all affected passengers."
