Drivers are being warned to pay attention to new signage after changes to the A63 in Hull.

Motorists were stuck in traffic on Monday morning on the eastbound carriageway heading into the city centre following work on the Castle Street scheme.

The road layout has been changed with the two eastbound lanes split to run either side of work on a new underpass.

National Highways apologised for the inconvenience and advised drivers to “allow additional time for their journeys this week”.

A new split-level junction is being created by lowering the level of the A63 to create an underpass.

The traffic switch is being carried out in two sections.

As part of the first stage, one lane has now moved to the north of the work on Myton Bridge, with one lane remaining south of the structure.

The layout is due to change again in April, with both of the eastbound lanes running to the northern side of the work on the new underpass.

A National Highways spokesperson said: “We have made some slight changes, which came into effect this morning.

“New, clearly marked signs now show exits for the A1079, city centre and Princes Dock Street before the junction at Ferensway, where we are now asking drivers to keep in the left-hand lane.

“We haven’t changed the number of available lanes. Drivers should continue to use both lanes to continue eastbound on the A63."

The scheme remains on time to be completed in 2025.
