A busy road will face overnight closures for resurfacing next week.

From 14 February to 26 March, there will be roadworks along Hucclecote Road to Barnwood Road in Gloucester.

The locals fear these closures will lead to traffic diverted across Chosen Way, Colwell Avenue and Zoons Road which will cause disruption.

One resident said: "We find it completely unacceptable especially as this will include 27 heavy buses going through."

'Frustrations'

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, councillor David Brown said: "People have been contacting me to inform me of their frustrations at the state of our roads.

“There are potholes everywhere and I have never seen our roads in a worse state. This job on the Hucclecote and Barnwood Road should last for years and give everyone much needed relief,” he added.

Gloucester Highways said its staff will work at night to minimise disruption and the closures are planned to happen 36 nights, excluding Sundays.

Gloucestershire County Council explained it has an investment of more than £100m focused on updating the county's roads.

A spokesperson from the council said: "This work will greatly improve these road surfaces, so all road users can enjoy smoother and safer journeys.

“We apologise for any inconvenience. The work will be undertaken in six smaller sections to ensure only one section needs to be closed at a time."
