A football fan who walked 195 miles from Wolverhampton to Newcastle for charity has spoken of the “surreal” moment he finished the challenge.

Wolves supporter Manny Singh Kang and his son Jeevan arrived in time to watch his team take on Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Saturday, having left Molineux Stadium four days before.

It was the 51-year-old’s latest fundraising effort and has so far raised about £50,000 for Dementia UK, bringing his total since 2018 for the charity to more than £260,000.

Mr Kang told BBC Radio WM about the moment he arrived in time for kick-off and was greeted by both sets of fans.

“It was just surreal. In those moments, you don’t know how to react,” he said.

“I turned up and I looked at them all, said I was OK and did five star jumps.”

He said he was not a triathlete or an Olympian and described himself as a family man who went to the gym two or three times a week.

“I think there’s power within us that is much greater than the power around us,” he added.

“Each person possesses that and if we focus on that, we can do unbelievable and amazing things.”

Mr Kang’s previous challenges included a number of marathons and a 126-mile walk from Wolverhampton to Chelsea, which he completed in October 2022.

He will be taking part in his fourth London Marathon in April.

Mr Kang received plaudits for his efforts from well-known figures including Wolves head coach Gary O’Neil and TV presenter Suzi Perry.

In a recorded message to Mr Kang, Ms Perry said: “I just think it’s a fantastic thing that you’ve done…you’re an absolute hero mate. You’re an inspiration.”
