An animal lover has opened an equine therapy centre in East Sussex to help people manage their emotions.

Psychotherapist Claudia Nicholson has opened the centre to the public at Downmere Farm, near Brighton.

As she was cuddling her animals, Ms Nicholson said "they are fabulous at making you feel very present".

In equine therapy, people interact with the animals to gain comfort and a sense of wellbeing.

The new centre at Downmere Farm includes three ponies, two horses and two miniature donkeys.

The range of animals means the centre can accommodate adults, teenagers and children under 10.

Ms Nicholson said the therapy had become increasingly popular with teenagers and their parents as it provided a safe space that was quiet and calm.

"For children that may be feeling isolated or having friendship issues, they're a fantastic therapist," she explained.

Ms Nicholson said she benefited from being around horses as a child and wanted to share the benefits with others.

"It gives you such a sense of wellbeing and love.

"They just want to be loved and to be cuddled and to be your friend," she said.
