Waste collections resume after week in limbo

Waste collectors have resumed their services after an Essex council's operator's licence was reinstated

Uttlesford District Council left residents in limbo after an "administrative issue" meant it could not collect refuse, garden and trade waste since 24 January.

It announced trade waste collections would restart on Tuesday, with domestic collections resuming on Wednesday.

A council spokesperson said they were "very sorry for the inconvenience".

General waste bins and food waste caddies from last week would be collected, with crews also able to take some "side waste".

However, the local authority said it "may not initially be running as many lorries as we would normally".

It added that recycling collections would not restart until the week commencing 12 February.

"We will provide an update regarding garden waste collections in the next few days," the spokesperson said.

"Thank you for your patience and once again we are very sorry for the inconvenience this has caused."
