Lanes to shut on major road for bridge repairs
- Published
A road over a railway line will be partially closed to traffic while repairs are carried out.
The work will see Barrack Road Railway Bridge in Christchurch, Dorset, made more "durable", according to Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council.
Vehicles will still be able to use the bridge, but it will be reduced from a dual carriageway to a single lane in each direction.
Starting on Monday, the essential maintenance is expected to last for six weeks.
The tarmac and defective expansion joints will be replaced and new waterproof membrane will be installed, the authority said.
While construction is taking place, a contraflow traffic management system will be used, allowing work to be carried out on one side of the bridge at a time.
The footpaths on the bridge would be closed in stages, but pedestrians would still be able to cross safely using designated points, the council added.
Motorists have been warned to leave extra time for their journeys.
