Roaming cat covers more miles than family car
- Published
The owners of a cat in Guernsey say their pet has covered more miles in a month during his nocturnal escapades, than they have driven in their car.
Two-year-old Harvee has been going out at night, exploring the west coast of the island and visiting neighbours, while his owners have been wirelessly tracking him.
Jonathan O'Connor, Harvee's owner, said that in the last month alone his roaming feline accumulated 144 miles (232km), whereas the family Smart car had only covered 105 miles (169km).
Mr O'Connor said: "It's the only cat I have ever known where I have to check when high tide is before letting him out.
"Knowing he covers at least 100 miles every month, we set a challenge with my Mum's car - who would cover more miles?
'Keeping people company'
"Mum nipping to the doctors and doing her shopping, or would it be the cat going out and about seeing the neighbours and ocasionally going to the beach?"
Harvee lives at Les Embruns House Hotel and likes to socialise with all the guests, accompanying them around the halls or even ringing his bells by guests' windows.
"He's been out and about in the community since January this year.
"He wants his own independence, is invaluable to the community, and is keeping people company."
"It's a joy to have him in our lives."
