About 800 homes in Jersey are still without their gas supply.

Island Energy (IE) said it had visited every customer in the island, but some had not been at home when engineers tried to reconnect them.

It said it had hoped to have everyone back on the system by Sunday.

Workers in hospitality said they were to apply for compensation after having lost out financially from IE's software failure.

IE CEO Jo Cox said the company was still working to reconnect customers.

She said: "It's not for lack of trying.

"We've been to those homes; we will try up to four or five times to try and get into those homes, so we're leaving notes at the door.

"If you've had a note through the door, call us and give us a time when you are going to be in, but we have ... visited every single home on the island."

'Very challenging week'

Marcus Calvani, from the Jersey Hospitality Association, said companies hoped the situation would not negatively impact their workers.

He said: "These are things that have to be dealt with, trying to make sure that the ratings and that kind of stuff stay as high as possible for these hotels.

"Some managers, sadly, their salaries are reliant on the customer ratings, and so that'd be very unfair to impact their livelihood as a result of this.

"It's been a very challenging week."

Natalie Parkin-Duffy, who runs the Salty Dog in St Aubin, said she lost some stock when the gas was cut off.

She said she managed to borrow equipment to put on a different menu, but did lose some bookings.

She said: "We do have records of the cancelled bookings.

"But then there's also the aspect of bookings that may have come in that didn't because people knew that we had no gas.

"It is a very difficult scenario of figures to try and sort of come together, but, nevertheless, there is some work to be done there."

IE said it would look at individual claims for compensation.
