Man charged after corrosive powder thrown at police

A man has been charged after allegedly throwing a corrosive powder at police officers in Maidstone.

Kent Police were called to reports of a man damaging property at an address in Knightrider Street at 17:15 GMT on 17 March.

The man is said to have thrown white powder over four officers as they arrived. They were treated by paramedics at the scene, said police.

A 26-year-old man was arrested and charged with four counts of unlawfully and intentionally threatening a person with a corrosive substance in a private place.

He was also charged with two counts of assaulting an emergency worker, and criminal damage, say police.

Police said the officers did not suffer serious or long-lasting injuries. The substance is yet to be identified.
