One of Leicestershire's major charities is to be celebrated during a fundraising walk.

The annual LOROS Twilight Walk will see hundreds of people walk through Leicester, starting at the King Power stadium at 17:30 BST on Saturday.

The charity provides care and support to more than 2,500 terminally-ill or vulnerable people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland every year.

This year's theme is superheroes and LOROS worker Cecila Davis said: "The people who come in to LOROS are my heroes - they inspire us every day."

The 10km (6.2-mile) walk is billed as a celebration of anyone who has lost someone they love.

Ms Davis uses creative art to help people process deep emotions.

She said: "Through the use of painting and making memory boxes, we can really help people along.

"The impact of our nurses and healthcare assistants can be seen, people going from depression to, just four weeks later, laughing, joking and singing.

"I'm no runner - I can't even run for the bus - so the Twilight Walk is a great way of getting attention for the work we do and the amazing people who come to us."

For Jo Reek, mum of Leah, one of five people who died in the Hinckley Road explosion in 2018, the Twilight Walk is an annual event to honour the memory of the 18-year-old.

She said: "We look forward to walking in Leah's memory every year. The atmosphere is so positive and fun, just like Leah.

"The Twilight Walk is a very special event."

LOROS said it needed to raise £6.1m annually to provide its services.
