The second stage of an £8m facelift for a historic performance venue is set to be approved by councillors.

Blackburn with Darwen Council’s planning committee is set to give the go ahead for the works to the Grade II listed King George’s Hall.

They include window and door replacements, stonework restoration and repointing.

The first phase of roof repairs was approved by the committee last month.

'Grandeur'

If approved, the latest planning application would be a major step forward for the complete refurbishment proposals for the hall in the town centre’s Northgate.

The money will come from a Levelling Up grant of £20m to Blackburn with Darwen Council from the government.

A report to councillors recommended the granting of both planning permission and listed building consent for the works that would "bring the building back to the grandeur it held when it was first opened in 1921".

The report said: “The proposed works comprise of a range of external window and door replacements, stonework restoration and repointing to the main hall building."
