A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder over a house fire in Nottinghamshire.

Emergency services were called to Lingmell Close in West Bridgford, where they found the front door of a property ablaze at about 03:00 BST on Friday.

An armed police officer and firefighters entered the property to help someone trapped inside, Nottinghamshire Police said.

The rescued occupant was taken to hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

A joint police and fire investigation into the blaze is ongoing, although it is suspected to have been lit deliberately.

The arrested man, 54, remains in custody, the force added.

The fire has since been extinguished, but the property has sustained extensive damage.

No serious injuries were reported, and police have asked anyone with any information to come forward.
