Burglar jailed for breaking into family home

A burglar who broke into a family's home has been jailed for 22 months.
Wayne McKie, 46, forced open a ground-floor window of a house in Winchester Way, Thorpe Meadows, Peterborough, at about 02:20 BST on 22 June.
He was caught on the home’s CCTV system before leaving with two bags. One contained a laptop, a tablet and tools and the other contained children’s items including clothes, toys and emergency medication.
The footage was reviewed by police, who immediately recognised McKie, having dealt with him over similar offences in the past.
On 26 June, McKie was spotted in Deeping St James, Lincolnshire, by an off-duty police sergeant. His colleagues found and arrested McKie in Lincoln Road, Northborough, near Peterborough.
McKie, of no fixed address, appeared at Peterborough Crown Court on Thursday, where he was sentenced after he admitted committing the burglary.
Det Con Matt Reed said: “The effect McKie’s actions have had on the victims cannot be underestimated – understandably, they have been left in what they have described as ‘emotional turmoil’ and feeling unsafe in their own home. No one should ever be made to feel this way.”
