A family home has been damaged after being struck by a car in north Belfast.

The vehicle crashed into the semi-detached house at Blackdam Close, off the Ligoniel Road, on Monday night.

BBC News NI understands that the crash is being treated as accidental.

The home is in a cul de sac and the car crashed through a low perimeter wall and metal fencing before hitting the front wall.

Part of a window was knocked out of its base and some bricks were dislodged from the single red brick exterior wall, collapsing into a room.

The occupants of the house were not in the room at the time.

Locals, who have expressed surprised at the extent of the damage, believe the car had just driven off from an adjacent street when the accident happened.
