Elderly villagers are still without electricity, after the power supply was knocked out by Storm Darragh at the weekend.

The electricity in Grimley, Worcestershire, went off at about 15:00 GMT on Saturday.

Resident and parish councillor Robin Woodhouse said the village was "predominantly [people who are] 70 years old or plus," adding it was "very difficult without electricity."

National Grid thanked customers for their patience and said its engineers were working to get the power back on as soon as possible.

Mr Woodhouse said he was originally told power would be restored on Saturday evening.

"We rang again and then it was going to be Monday evening at 6 o'clock," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester, "and then... it was 9 o'clock and [on Tuesday] they're again saying 9 o'clock.

"So it is quite confusing about where we're going and what we've got to do."

Mr Woodhouse and his wife, both 70, have been visiting their adult children in Broadheath and Hallow for showers and meals, only going home in the evenings to sleep.

But not everyone in the village has family nearby.

"There [is] a couple two doors away that have got health problems," he said. "They are in a seriously bad way."

Mr Woodhouse acknowledged that it was difficult for engineers to get to the electricity pylons because they are partially submerged.

National Grid said: "The adverse weather has made working conditions for our engineers challenging but since the start of the storm, we have restored over 1.5 million properties."
