A main route to a hospital was closed for a number of hours after a car left the carriageway and landed on its roof.

The single vehicle crash happened on the A530 Middlewich Road, the route from Nantwich to Crewe's Leighton Hospital, shortly after 03:00 BST.

The driver of the electric car was freed by firefighters and handed into the care of paramedics, say Cheshire Fire and Rescue.

Crews remained on scene to monitor the car's battery, to make sure the vehicle was safe to be recovered.
