The homes could be built on land off Burton Road

Plans for 175 homes on the edge of Melton Mowbray are set to be decided on Thursday.

Melton Borough Council's planning committee is recommended by council officers to approve an outline application from Davidsons Developments Ltd to build a housing development on land next to Burton Road.

The Local Democracy Reporting Service previously said councillors deferred the proposals in September to see financial documents which stated it would not be viable for the developer to pay the £6.69m Leicestershire County Council requested towards local infrastructure and services.

A report prepared for the committee said the documents were now available on the council's website.

According to council documents, the application would be subject to a section 106 legal agreement in which the developer would pay £3.58m to education services in the area.

A council report said the proposed development, which would contain open spaces and play areas, would represent a "sustainable extension" to the town.

Documents submitted by the developer state: "The proposals aim to make the most efficient use of land that is appropriate to the nature and setting of the site.

"The scheme successfully promotes better access to local facilities and public transport."
