Inspections are planned to explore how long the control tower at Alderney airport can stay in use

Alderney's airport control tower has a "limited life expectancy" according to structural surveys.

Guernsey's Policy & Resources Committee revealed the information in reply to a Rule 14 question submitted by Alderney representative Alex Snowdon.

The response added that further inspections were planned to explore how long the control tower could stay in use, but its replacement was not part of the current planned runway upgrade.

Responsibility for the tower lies with the States' Trading Supervisory Board, and any rebuild would be treated as a separate major project, it said.
