All lanes on the M23 have now reopened after a police incident saw traffic on both carriageways brought to a standstill.

The motorway was closed between junction eight (M25) and junction nine (Gatwick Airport) from about 07:00 BST on Wednesday. Northbound lanes reopened an hour later.

National Highways said the closure was due to a "police-led incident" and warned motorists they should expect delays.

Surrey Police confirmed its officers attended the scene.
