Two people have been charged with arson following a fire at an apartment block in Cheshire.

A 31-year-old man and a woman, 36, both from Nantwich, are accused of arson as well as perverting the course of justice, Cheshire Police said.

Both appeared at Chester Magistrates' Court, where they were remanded in custody and are due to appear at the city's crown court, on 13 January.

They were arrested after the fire broke out on Saturday morning, at the apartment block on Laurel Place on the Kingsbourne Estate.

Although the fire service said the blaze was contained to one flat, some residents were assessed for light smoke inhalation and one casualty was treated by paramedics.
