A number of roads in Nottingham city centre have reopened following a police investigation into a suspicious package.

Nottinghamshire Police had advised members of the public at 15:50 BST on Friday to avoid the Station Street, Canal Street, Middle Hill, Midland Train Station and Trent Street areas.

In an updated statement, the force said at 17:30 that the roads had reopened.

A spokesperson said: "We would like thank the public for their patience and understanding while the incident was safely resolved."

Surrounding buildings were evacuated as a precaution, police added.

There was no tram service between Old Market Square and Queens Walk, but operator Nottingham Express Transit (NET) confirmed all stops were now being served.
