Drivers are being warned not to use suspicious QR stickers to pay for parking.

Officers from Stroud District Council have discovered stickers with the scam QR codes on council-owned ticket machines.

The council said it is also aware of a different scam, with people receiving texts that state they need to pay a fine.

The scam stickers have been removed from the machines, with the council's officers "monitoring the situation closely".

In a statement, Stroud District Council: "The QR codes have been stuck to ticket machines, and link mobile phones to a website which charges users to park, using credit or debit cards.

"Parking at an SDC car park is paid for using the MiPermit app, or with cash at ticket machines in the car parks. SDC does not use QR codes in this way."

The council added that penalty charge notices are only issued by its enforcement officers, who attach the notices to vehicle windscreens.
